Peres now has safe water!

Peres is 20 years old and expecting her first child. Peres and her husband support themselves by selling goods at the local market. Peres’s main concern about this pregnancy was access to clean drinking water. With a prolonged drought in the Mbita area, where Peres lives, there is no access to rain water collection which is usually the main source of water. Now, most people in this community turn to Lake Victoria which is home to many water borne illnesses. Now, with Peres’s antenatal care kit, she can treat all the water she uses throughout her pregnancy to protect her from infections.

Each kit includes a mosquito net to sleep under, water treatment drops to provide clean water for her entire pregnancy, a laboratory test for ongoing evaluations of maternal health, and medications including malaria prophylaxis, deworming, ferrous sulfate and folic acid. In addition, mothers visit the Med25 clinic each month during their pregnancy to receive maternal education and check ups from clinic professionals.
