Rehema to follow in her mother’s footsteps!

rehema awuor
Dear Carol,

Rehema is a 20 year old housewife from Mbita town who is expecting her first child. Rehema’s mother is a traditional birth attendant in her village and one day Rehema hopes to also become a traditional birth attendant for her husband’s village. After relocating to live in her husband’s village, Rehema worried that she would not be able to find a health care facility in the area that she could afford as a housewife. Rehema’s sister in law told her about the MED25 Clinic and she was so grateful when when she arrived that she received your gift of an antenatal care kit.

Each kit includes a mosquito net to sleep under, water treatment drops to provide clean water durring her entire pregnancy, a laboratory test for ongoing evaluations of maternal health, and medications including malaria prophylaxis, deworming, ferrous sulfate and folic acid. In addition, mothers visit the Med25 clinic each month during their pregnancy to receive maternal education and check ups from clinic professionals.

Rehema knows what to expect during the delivery, but she was so thankful to receive guidance from the MED25 nurse about the remaining months of her pregnancy. She can now protect herself against waterborne illnesses and malaria, which is the diseases of most concern for a pregnant woman in her community. Thank you so much Carol for giving Rehema the peace of mind she needed, so now she can focus on the excitement of her first child!
